Information for Graduating Seniors

One honor associated with membership in National Honor Society is wearing the NHS cord during for Commencement. In order to receive a cord, you must be a member in good standing at the end of your senior year.

This means you have:

  • Maintained a 3.5 unweighted GPA

  • Missed no more than two meetings

  • Participated in NHS service projects

  • Completed an additional 10 hours of individual community service per semester

  • Acted as positive role model and representative of Ida S. Baker High School

  • Maintained excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character

  • Paid $20 annual dues

Cords will be distributed to eligible members along with graduation caps and gowns. Officers will receive two cords.

At this time, the cost of a cord is included in membership dues. Students who still owe dues (and have met all of the other requirements above) will need to pay $20 for the cord.
