ACADEMIES

IBHS CAREER ACADEMIES

Ida S. Baker is a comprehensive high school where all students are required to commit to an academy.  Digital IT is a pre-academy course that all students take as 9th or 10th graders.  Each 9th grade student will research careers and visit academies in order to make an informed decision about their academy commitment for their 10th-12th grade years at Ida Baker.

AUTOMOTIVE ACADEMY

Offered: grades 10-12; If space is available, students can begin this academy as a 9th grader.  
Possible Certifications: Florida Automobile Dealers Association (FADA); ASE Entry-level certification in Transmission; Service Technology; Brakes; Electrical Systems; Engine Performance; Engine Repair; Heating & Air; Manual Drive Train & Axles; and Suspension & Steering.
Internships/Extracurricular Activities/Partnerships: Grease Dawgs Automotive Club

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION ACADEMY

Offered: grades 9-12
Possible Certifications: NCCER Carpentry Level 1, NCCER Construction Technology.
Internships/Extracurricular Activities/Partnerships: IBHS Theatre Production

COMPUTER SCIENCE ADACEMY

Offered: grade 9-12
Possible Certifications: Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, After Effects and 3ds Max; CompTIA A+, Linux+, Network+, Security+; and Cyber Security Analyst.  Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) EWindows OS Fundamentals, Security Fundamentals, and Networking Fundamentals; Certified Internet Web (CIW) Database Design Specialist, Network Technology Associate, Site Development Associate, Web Design Professional and Web Design Specialist; and Toon Boom Certified Associate (Storyboard).
Internships/Extracurricular Activities/Partnerships: IBHS IT Internships; JROTC Internship for Cyber Security Competition Team; AP Computer Science Principles.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE ADADEMY

Offered: grades 9-12
Possible Certifications: Traffic Control Officer, Parking Enforcement Specialist, and Selective Traffic Enforcement Program for Civilians; Public Service Aid; and American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED for Adults, Children & Infants.
Internships/Extracurricular Activities/Parthernsips: Law Honor Society; Competitive Mock Trail Team; and Forensics Club.

DIGITAL DESIGN ACADEMY

Offered:  grades 9-12;  This academy can also include a photography class
Possible Certifications: Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) Dreamweaver; Flash, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
Internships/Extracurricular Activities/Partnerships: Yearbook

ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY

Offered: grades 10/9-12  These are 2 separate academies that students can choose to be in jointly.
Possible Certifications: Autodesk Certified User - AutoCad, Revit Architecture, Inventor, 3ds Max. Autodesk Certified Professional - AutoCad,  3ds Max; RECF Pre-Engineering, RECF robotics; Certified Solidworks Associate = Academic.
Internships/Extracurricular Activities/Partnerships: STEM Program; Robotics Club,  STEMTASTIC, Digital Lee.

FIRE FIGHTING ACADEMY

Offered: grades 10-12; this academy is taught by actual Fire Fighters
Possible Certifictions: Fire fighter 1; Emergency Medical Respnder (EMR)
Internships/Partnerships: FM Public Service Adademy.  Senior Fire students attend the FM Public Service Academy on even days to complete their program.  At the end of senior year, students test for Fire 1 and then have the option to return to the Public Service Academy after graduation to complete Fire 2.

MEDICAL ACADEMY

Offered: grades 9-12; 9th graders can take a pre-medical elective called Medical Skills.
Possible Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Certified EKG Technician, Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
Internships/Extracurricular Activities: Health Occupations Students of America
Partners for clinical sites: Cape Coral Rehabilitation Center and Lee Health Systems.

PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING ACADEMY

Offered: grades 9-12; Students who complete this academy receive a Contingency Contract with the Lee County School District, which guarantees consideration for employment as a teacher once teaching certificate is obtained.
Internships/Partnerships: Gulf Elementary; FGCU College of Education
Extracurricular Activities: Teen Trendsetter sponsored by the Barbara Bush Literary Foundation and Future Educators of America Club.

TELEVISION PRODUCTION ACADEMY

Offered: grades 9-12; This academy produces Ida Baker's Bulldog News.
Possible Certifications: Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) Premiere Pro, Toon Book Certified Associate (Storyboard).
Extracurricular Activities/Partnerships:   Fort Myers Film Festival, Lee County School Film Festival, and other District and Community Film Contests.

IBHS LEADERSHIP ACADEMIES

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY - JROTC

Offered: grades 9-12
The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is a program offered to teach students character education, student achievement, wellness, leadership, and diversity.  Collectively, these lessons motivate students to be better citizens.  In addition to promoting citizenships, JROTC also prepares students for post-secondary options including college or the workforce.  The benefits of citizenship and college preparedness are reinforced throughout all four years.  The is no military obligation.
Extracurriculuar Activities: Community Service, Veterans Day Parade, Camping, Adopt-A-Road, School Support Habitat for Humanity, College Visits, Holiday House.

AVID ACADEMY

Offered: grades 9-12.  Students who meet the National AVID Standards will receive an invitation for the application process.  AVID is a college & career support program designed to help students improve in the areas of writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading (WICOR).

IBHS FINE & PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY

MUSICAL ARTS ACADEMY

Offered: grades 9-12 
Courses Offered: Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Jazz Band, Pre-AP Music Theory and Percussion.
Extracurricular: Drum Line, Color Guard, Acapella Choir and Marching Band.  Florida Marching Band Championship - Regional and Semi-Finals competitions (Tampa); Music Performance Assessment competitions; Acapella choir, performing the National Anthem at sporting events; various opportunities for chamber music; and Tri-M, which is the National Honor Society in Music for High School students.

THEATRE ARTS ACADEMY

Offered: grades 9-12
Courses Offered: 3D Art Levels 1, 2 and 3. 2D Art Levels 1, 2, and 3.  AP Studio 3D, 2D, and Drawing as well as AP Art History.  Students will explore a variety of mediums, artists, and concepts and will have opportunities to receive college credit.
Extra Curricular: Art Club and National Art Honor Society.  All students will have the opportunity to participate in local, State, and National contests as welll as display their work at a variety of venues.
